Word For The Year

Made For More

Reverend George Adegboye

(John 10:10, Ephesians 1:18-23 & Ephesians 2:10)

In seeking the face of God for our watchword for the year 2025 central on my mind was what God want us to do with the rest of our lives. While all of us have done a lot with our lives till date it’s important to stop look and listen to God as to what he wants us to do with the rest of our days on the earth. Whether you are aware of it or not, because God loves us, he has a vision for our future. This is different from what we want to do individually or what others want us to do with the rest of our lives. For those of us alive today it is because we have not yet accomplished what we were made for. God has a bigger plan for your life than you have for yourself. In Christ as believers, we were described as his Workmanship Ephesians 2:10.

The word translated workmanship here is the word poiema which is also rendered masterpiece. That is who he made us to be for the kind of life he wants to live. As to whether the live lives we are living is a true reflection of our being made masterpiece is a completely different thing. According to this scripture the reason we were made the way we were made is so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. By placing His image in us, God made us a masterpiece and assumes an extra measure of ownership and responsibility for our lives. Our greatest assignment is for us to match up with God’s vision for our life and not just keep living for what we have been living for. If the reason we want to live does not agree with God’s vision for our future, then God is not bound to give you all the life that he will have given us.

We need to be committed more than ever to why he made us. In my many years of living as a born again Christian which is close to half a century now one of the most tragic and unfortunate things I have seen about many believers and their churches is the situation whereby many of them have SETTLED FOR LESS OR SOMETHING ELSE than Gods best of what he made them for. What it means to settle for something less or else than for Gods best simply mean to become comfortable and living with and living for what is not the best that God has for us.

The vision of God for the rest of our lives is to confirm to the image of a masterpiece which is what he made us for so that we can do what he wants us to do. It is for this reason that Gods Word for us this year resonates a lot. God has made this year 2025 to us as a year when we need to challenge, inspire, provoke, stir up, stretch ourselves, build ourselves, reinvent and strive more than we have ever done because we are MADE FOR MORE than we have been living for.

What this phrase emphasizes is that as individuals and as a church we have the ability capacity and capability to achieve more than we might initially believe. The core idea is that we believers are created to be more than just ordinary, with potential for significant impact difference making and purpose in life. Being Made for More mean living up to one’s potential as an image-bearer of God. The phrase is to encourage all believers to push past perceived past boundaries, limitations and strive for greater things in their lives.

From this year 2025 knowing we are MADE FOR MORE we need to live A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS. Let me however define this more. Everyone has limits. Limits are a part of everyday life. Everyone has limiting circumstances and limiting ways of thinking. When Jesus comes into our lives, He wants to remove the limits that are hindering us. We, however, are so used to the status quo that we find it hard to venture beyond our limits. We are imprisoned in our minds. In life there are both good limits and bad limits and I want to make a distinction between them. Good limits are limits that keep us from living foolishly and hurting ourselves and others. Bad limits are limits that keep us from experiencing Gods fullness in our lives.

When I am talking about no more limits in 2025, I am not talking about disobeying laws and other limits that are necessary to keep our lives in order or living foolishly. I am not talking about spending our funds recklessly or speeding recklessly down the highway rather what I am talking about is doing away with limits in our lives that keep God at a distance. It is a call to apprehend that of which Christ Jesus apprehended us. My reference is talking about limits we have accepted as normal that are contrary to the will of God for us. These are bad limits and need to be removed. Concisely bad limits keep us from receiving the fullness of God. These limits keep us from entering an extraordinary lifestyle of fullness of all things God he has for us. These limits put us in a prison without walls and will keep us from experiencing his purpose and plans for our lives.

As God transforms us within to be more like Him, and our heart mirrors him more perfectly, we can expect two different things: (1) we would experience the ability to increasingly live as we were created the Masterpiece life, and (2) we should also feel deeper pain when we do not by living for something less or something less than Gods best. As a child of God our greatest duty and debt which we owe God, ourselves, the world, our generation, and others in our lives is to strive to be everything God made us to be.

MADE FOR MORE is a clarion call to action, a reminder, a charge, and and to a new radical choice to begin to demand of ourselves much more than we have been living for. We were ‘Made for More. ‘ Ephesians can help us understand what this means. The Apostle Paul provides a roadmap in Ephesians for what it means to live the kind of full, abundant life that Jesus talks about in John 10. Every single one of us can embrace God’s “more” for us personally and for the church, His body. Paul prayed for the Ephesians 1:18-23 to be stirred to understand so that they can apprehend the more that they were made for in Christ. We are made for more and need to begin to live and move and have our being as a people who are MADE FOR MORE.

This year you will need to declare it both to yourself as an individual and as a local church that you are made for more. Beyond this affirmation attestation and acknowledgement that you are made for more begin intentionally to strive both as an individual and as a church to live like those who are made for more. We were made for more than just existing or being there. We were made as Gods Masterpiece to thrive, to dream big, to explore, and to make a difference in a bigger height and mightier way. God has a plan to give each and everyone of us a future filled with hope, a future that is bigger and better than anything we can imagine or ask for. We are made for more so we should not settle for a life that is less than what we were made for. Each and everyone of us was made for greatness, for significance, for a life that matters.

Our lives are a canvas, painted with the colors of our choices. Make sure that you are painting a masterpiece, and not just breathing. You were created to live an outstanding life that is full, meaningful, and purposeful. Do not settle for anything else or less. For the living the greatest tragedy is not death, but a life that is unlived despite divine provisions and ability for it. You were made for more, so go out and live the life you were meant to live. Don’t settle for just achieving “the good life,” because the good life is not good enough. It doesn’t satisfy. You can have a lot to live on and still have nothing to live for. Aim instead for “the better life”-serving God in a way that expresses your heart. Figure out what you love to do-what God gave you a heart to do-and then do it for his glory.

As a child of God there are 7 main things you must always have in mind as a masterpiece of divine craftsmanship in line with the way he has made you:

One: There is a life God wants you to live as his child. This kind of life is that type that brings glory to God and attract others to Jesus Christ. A life that is a blessing and not a burden. A life that is an inspiration to others and not an irritation to them. Do not settle for less or something else of the life you can live for which the Word of God is a manual to guide you.

Two: There is a place God wants you to get to in life. You should live limitlessly and not in a prison without walls. Over the years many people have done things in this world that has kept moving back the boundaries on many fronts from medicine to space exploration to innovations and inventions. The world is your constituency in life and the uttermost parts of the earth is there for you to reach. He wants your scope of influence and territories expanded and enlarged. Do not settle for anything else than a place in life that you can go beyond. Acts 1:8 says unto the uttermost parts of the earth .

Three: There is a person God wants you to be. Jesus came to model the kind of person into whose image God wants us to conform to. If God had wanted you, to be like another human being he would have made you in that person’s image and likeness into which you should have just grown. However, he made you in his image and likeness the fullness of which he wants you to grow to. In Christ he has given us the example of who God wants us to be. To what extent are your working with God so that you can be like him? Do not settle for less of the kind of person you can become. Press inward, Press downward, Press onward, Press upward, Press outward.

Four: There is a purpose God created you to fulfill. There is a purpose for the SHAPE that he made you for. Your shape is as follows: Spiritual gift: a spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church.” God planned it this way so we would need each other. When we use our gifts together, we all benefit. If others don’t use their gifts, you get cheated, and if you do not use your gifts, they get cheated. Heart: the Bible uses the term heart to describe the bundle of desires, hopes, interests, ambitions, dreams, and affections you have. Your heart stands for the source of all your motivations-what you love to do and what you care about most. Your heart determines why you say the things you do, why you feel the way you do, and why you act the way you do.

Physically, each of us has a unique heartbeat. Just as we each have unique thumbprints, eye prints, and voice prints, our hearts beat in slightly different patterns. It’s amazing that out of all the billions of people who have ever lived, no one has had a heartbeat exactly like yours. In the same way, God has given each of us a unique emotional “heartbeat” that races when we think about the subjects, activities, or circumstances that interest us. We instinctively care about some things and not about others. These are clues to where you should be serving. Another word for heart is passion. There are certain subjects you feel passionate about and others you couldn’t care less about. Some experiences turn you on and capture your attention while others turn you off or bore you to tears.

These reveal the nature of your heart. Abilities: your abilities are the natural talents you were born with. Some people have a natural ability with words: They came out of the womb talking! Other people have natural athletic abilities, excelling in physical coordination. Still others are good at mathematics, music, or mechanics.

When God wanted to create the Tabernacle and all the utensils for worship, he provided artists and craftsmen who were shaped with the “skill, ability, and knowledge in all kinds of crafts to make artistic designs … and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship.” Today God still bestows these abilities and thousands of others, so people can serve him. All our abilities come from God. Even abilities used to sin are God-given; they are just being misused or abused. The Bible says, “God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well.” Since your natural abilities are from God, they are just as important and as “spiritual” as your spiritual gifts. The only difference is that you were given them at birth.

One of the most common excuses people give for not serving is “I just don’t have any abilities to offer.” This is ludicrous. You have dozens, probably hundreds, of untapped, unrecognized, and unused abilities that are lying dormant inside you. Many studies have revealed that the average person has from 500 to 700 different skills and abilities-far more than you realize. Every ability can be used for God’s glory. Paul said, “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. What I am able to do, God wants me to do. You are the only person on earth who can use your abilities. No one else can play your role, because they do not have the unique shape that God has given you. The Bible says that God equips you “with all you need for doing his will.”

To discover God’s will for your life, you should seriously examine what you are good at doing and what you are not good at. Personality: our individual uniqueness is a scientific fact of life. When God made you, he broke the mold from which you were made. There never has been, and never will be, anybody exactly like you. It is obvious that God loves variety-just look around! He created each of us with a unique combination of personality traits. God made introverts and extroverts. He made people who love routine and those who love variety. He made some people “thinkers” and others “feelers.”

Some people work best when given an individual assignment while others work better with a team. The Bible says, “God works through different people in several ways, but it is the same God who achieves his purpose through them all.” The Bible gives us plenty of proof that God uses all types of personalities. Peter was sanguine. Paul was choleric. Jeremiah was a melancholy. When you look at the personality differences in the twelve disciples, it is easy to see why they sometimes had interpersonal conflict. There is no “right” or “wrong” temperament.

We need all kinds of personalities to balance the church and give it flavor. The world would be a very boring place if we were all the same. Fortunately, people come in more than thirty-one flavors. Your personality will affect how and where you use your spiritual gifts and abilities. For instance, two people may have the same gift of evangelism, but if one is introverted and the other is extroverted, that gift will be expressed in different ways. Experience: You have been shaped by your experiences in life, most of which were beyond your control. God allowed them for his purpose of molding you.

In determining your experience, you should examine at least six kinds of experiences from your past:

  • Family experiences: What did you learn growing up in your family?
  • Educational experiences: What were your favorite subjects in school?
  • Vocational experiences: What jobs have you been most effective in and enjoyed most?
  • Spiritual experiences: What have been your most meaningful times with God?
  • Ministry experiences: How have you served God in the past? And

Painful experiences: What problems, hurts, thorns, and trials have you learned from? It is this last category, painful experiences, that God uses the most to prepare you for the future kind of life he has for you. God never wastes a hurt! In fact, your greatest effectiveness will most likely come out of your greatest hurt. You are equipped for something. Do not settle for less of the life of purpose fulfillment God has for you. Because you are made in God’s image, you exist to reflect and represent Him on this earth. Because you are made in God’s image, you are made to proclaim what He is like by doing what He does. Because you are made in God’s image, you are made for represent him on the earth. You are made for more to add value and make vital contributions to the earth in your time and generation. Made for more to be a producer and not just a consumer of other people’s products. The average men consume. The wise create.

Five: There are things God wants you to do for yourself, him, his kingdom, the place where he has set you and others. What and who have you been an example to? Who have you raised? How better are you leaving the lives of people you have met and the places that you have been in life. What difference have you made as the salt of the earth and light of the world. To what extent have you been or are you being an ambassador of Gods kingdom to your generation and others?

Six: There are things God wants you to have you. Yes, all things that pertain to Life and godliness are yours. How much of the abundance of his house that are theoretically and legally yours are practically and experientially yours indeed. He doesn’t want you to lack but to be a liberal soul that scatters but also to enjoy the goodness in the land of the living.

Seven: There are expectations God has from you. Are you aware of them and are you doing your best to meet his expectations or are you still a disappointment who is only focussed on your expectations from him. He made you for himself to show forth his praises Isaiah 43:21 and for his pleasure Rev 4:11. How well are you measuring against these expectations? Child of God please know that you are MADE FOR MORE than the kind of life you are now living. You can still do so much better than you are currently doing. You are MADE FOR MORE than the place you have now gotten to in life.

Be it Spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, financially, vocationally, or relationally. You have made progress towards the land of promises but the place where you are now isn’t the ultimate destination. Why you may ask? Because you are made for more. You are MADE FOR MORE to get and acquire more things in life than the things that you now have. Yes, God has blessed you, yes, he has made your name great, yes, he has made of you a great nation, but he wants to make you that in you and through you shall all families of the earth be blessed. Thus, there are still many more things that are there for you. You are MADE FOR MORE as to what you can do for God for his Kingdom, your community, for yourself and for others. No doubt you may have done a lot but there remain a lot still that need to be done. You are MADE FOR MORE as to meeting up with all of Gods expectations from you. You have met up with some of what he expects from you in the past but greater expectations are now on you for you are made with no boundaries that you cannot break beyond.

You are MADE FOR MORE when it comes to his purpose for why he made you. However, you still need to press towards the mark of his higher calling Any believer who in cooperation with God makes the necessary efforts to live the life God wants him to live, be the person Gods wants him to be, ulfil the purpose God has for him, appropriate by faith all the things God already says are yours, do all what God wants him to do for God his kingdom others, and is determined to get to the place God wants him to get to while also focussing on Gods expectations from him can’t but be a masterpiece of divine creation.

You were created for more than to be successful in life but for a life of significance. Your life especially its future has more meaning and purpose than you can speculate. For you to discover more you need to hear from your creator. And what is he saying? You are MADE FOR MORE. You were made to make a difference in life for that is the true measure and mission of our lives. When we were born, we cried out while those present at our birth rejoiced for welcoming a newborn. When the time comes for us to go to our reward it should be that as we go on our way back to him knowing we have fought a good fight finished our course and kept the faith we should be rejoicing while the people around us then should cry for the world will be missing a difference maker. Let it be know that there is more to life than what you see so do not settle for the status quo. There is a deeper reality, a spiritual realm, that invites us all to explore and experience more. Today whether you know it or not you still have undiscovered and untapped potential.

God has placed gifts, talents, and abilities within you, waiting to be discovered and unleashed. You are MADE FOR MORE and the discovery of those things is the link to the next stage of your life as part of his Vision for the rest of your life. Remember this that the story of your life is still being written and that the best chapters of your life are still ahead. Don’t give up on your dreams and aspirations. Regardless of your circumstances, you are loved and valued by God. This truth if well understood and comprehended will empower you to live a life of purpose and significance that you were made to live which is much MORE than that you have lived before now. In order to be who we were created to be, we must affirm that the love and power of God is stronger still than the forces around us. This isn’t a year to settle for less than Gods best but to yearn for more and more, greater and greater, from glory to glory. Be guided by the following this year

  • Do not settle for anything or anybody less than you deserve as a child of God
  • Do not settle for something else in the place of what your original desire was. This will self sabotaging if you do so. Whatever you have imagined to do is doable.
  • Do not settle for the same thing this year that you settled for last year. This will be an act of stagnation. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think.
  • Do not settle for what everyone is settling for. You are not everybody and not expected to follow everybody. Rather follow hard after him who is the author and finisher of your faith. Unique and new things attract more than more of the same.
  • Do not settle for anything that can affect negatively your relationship fellowship partnership and friendship with God, and which may obstruct or hinder him from working in, on and through your life. There is no you without Him
  • Do not settle for anything that doesn’t not perfectly satisfy . His plan for you perfectly satisfies
  • Don’t try to make do for sometime with whatever will not do eventually. This is because if it doesn’t do today, it won’t do tomorrow.
  • Don’t settle for tomorrow the thing the time of which has come today. Have zero tolerance for procrastination. It is an assassin of opportunities.
  • Do not settle for any arrangement that can put you in the paths of Satan and his destructive snares and elements. Do not give him a place but rather resist him firmly.

Settle for and be expectant for a year wherein you will experience the full MEASURE AND MEANING of what it is to be MADE FOR MORE.

WELCOME ON BOARD.
